D Nachnani and Coastal Edge: The Leader of the Pack

Volcom, Coastal Edge and Give Jeans a Chance!

On Friday, I was fortunate enough to be present at Coastal Edge’s kick off for their upcoming Give Jeans a Chance campaign for 2011, which thanks to D Nachnani and Coastal Edge is expected to run in more than 100 schools in the Virginia Beach area. On hand were schoolteachers, administrators, State delegates and, I think most importantly, students.

D Inspiring the Crowd

As we kicked off the event, I watched as D reached out to the community, urging them to be a part of something special, urging them to be a part of the powerful impact that Giving Back has. D, the founder of Coastal Edge surf shops, is genuinely committed to this program and is inspiring youth and other community members to ramp up efforts and better their massive collection campaign from last year. Their goal this year? 50,000 pairs of jeans and/or jackets…friends, that’s what Volcom’s  overall, global goal is. Gnarly!

D is an energetic man; very charismatic, very friendly, and easy to be around. He’s built a successful business over the last 21 years, which is not something to take lightly and watching his passion for giving back and engaging the community in which he’s doing business was awesome.

I got a chance to speak to the crowd as well. I discussed out New Future vision, our commitment to our Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility programs and the role that I play there at Volcom. I love reaching kids with the concept of working in Action Sports AND in Sustainability. Something else I don’t take lightly…

Talking New Future to the New Future

In the end we gave away goodies to kids that asked questions, but I’m not sure we needed to. The kids we genuinely excited about the campaign – they wanted to know how they could do more? Could they start a campaign? Could their little brothers and sisters? Could they deliver the jeans, the whole bit…The Pièce de résistance? A Give Jeans a Chance cheer compliments of the local HS Cheer squad.

Coastal Edge and VB CRUSHED It Last Year!

So do I write this to highlight D and the Coastal Edge commitment? Sure maybe, but I think a big part of this is to send out a challenge. Who else will wave this flag? Who else wants the crown of the King of Jeans in their territory? For now, D, it’s all yours. And whether it’s 500, 5,000, or 50, 000 pairs+, it’s all for a good cause, and people in need will get something this winter thanks to you and your community’s efforts. The New Future salutes you…

On the Way to Their Goal!
